The Great Yoni Mandala Project

Yoni is the tantric term for the female vulva. It can be translated as sacred place or tomb and is viewed as the source of life.

There are tantric texts that say that a person can become enlightened just by meditating on the yoni; and in Transcendence couples training Deepening Love there is sometimes an exercise where the man meditates on the yoni daily for 28 days.

The sacred yoni is seen as the source and entrance into life rather than a place of pleasure.
In tantra, which involves the worship of Shakti, the female principle, a mandala is a geometrical shape which, through meditative gazing, can create an altered state of consciousness and is seen as a doorway into Oneness.

Through technology we can combine these in a way impossible in ancient times and make a yoni mandala with the auspicious number of 108 yoni images.

Each image, of a different yoni will be arranged in an spiral of three and a half turns. This is the same classic configuration as the depictions of the Kundalini; the serpent traditionally coiled dormant in the sacrum whose assent up the spine leads to awakening.

The Great Yoni
Therefore we need 108 pictures of yonis to arrange in this pattern to make a large digital mandala. The pictures need to be done in a similar style to avoid becoming a jumble. They need to be similar to the one below; showing only the yoni (not thighs) in a natural state – not held open with fingers.

Any shavings, piercings or menstrual blood or arousal will be welcome as the aim is to have all varieties and stages of yoni (for obvious reasons over 18 only or over 16 with parents permission).

The pictures need to be in vertical (portrait) format taken without flash and with a digital camera as most mobile phones do not provide the quality or close focussing necessary. The resolution needs to be at least 5 Megapixels.

The picture is best taken in diffuse sunlight to allow shadows that are not too deep. A white sheet of paper can easily act as a reflector. It may be possible for a woman to take this herself but it is probably easier with a friend! We can do some cropping and contrast changes but we can’t turn a bad picture in to a good one.

Send photos to Transcendence (tantra.uk@gmail.com ) . Only one photo from each woman will be used and where it is in the mandala will not be logged so when the work is complete you can have fun recognising your own – then give it to a man to meditate on! An example picture is above.

The aim is to have it complete by the end of the year and we will send everyone who contributed a link to the completed Great Yoni Mandala.

Thanks and Namaste.
